A few changes I made for my own personal play were no collecting gems or minerals. I did allow my Sim to collect bugs if he wanted since the payout is so low. I also didn't allow him to fish for food, profit or fertilizing. When he married I emptied out his new wifes inventory and family funded the household total back to what it was before the wedding.
Meet Wadsworth Woodcock, our 'Gentleman Lumberjack'. Wadsworth, sick of his have it all rich lifestyle decided to challenge himself by buying a plot of forest and with his own two hands turning it into something he can be proud of.
Here is Wadsworth's little lot of green, 32 trees in all.
Wadsworth really wasn't much of an outdoors man, but he put in his time at the gym and slowly started to build some muscle allowing him to chop down some trees.
Ok so maybe he underestimated the weeks he'd be sleeping on public benches like some hobo.
...And there were days he really missed his limo and driver....
Wadsworth's favorite place in town was the library. Here he could relax in the refined (almost) atmosphere he was raised in. Studying how to fix sinks and stoves however was not his favorite reading material.
Wadsworth began to appreciate the everyday things in life. Like a place to take a free shower or grill a couple of hotdogs when you literally had no home of your own.
As time wore on, between working out and clearing his land, Wadsworth actually started getting attached to this small farming community. He enjoyed hanging out at the local watering hole and meeting new friends.
The hardest part of this Lumberjack Life seemed to be trying to get some decent shut eye. But the more he slept around town the more people seemed to just not take notice of that 'guy in the top hat'
...and the weeks dragged on. Building his body and strength became Wadsworths daily drive.
His cooking skills improved as well and he became a bit of legend around town when it came to public grilling contests.
Finally the day arrived. Wadsworth had felled enough trees to begin building his future home, he wasn't getting any younger after all and a new family needs a new home.
It wasn't much but Wadsworth first night in his own bed (cheap as it was) felt like heaven.
A few more trees cashed in and the homestead was coming along nicely.
What started off as simply a means to keep food on the table, turned into quite a lucrative home business. People will pay good money for quality organic produce these days.
Despite the whirlwind blur of working out, tinkering and gardening Wadsworth did manage to make some female friends... one special friend Tatiana was destined to be his wife.
Ummm, ok so someone dropped the ball and failed to actually get pictures of Wadsworths birthday, the engagement or the wedding of Wads and Tat .. sorry. But as you can see, she said yes and they wasted no time making beh-behies!!
With a baby on the way, another house improvement session was in order.
Having someone to help out with the gardening really allowed Wads to focus on his workouts and handyman skills, thus allowing for more trees to be milled and even more home improvements for the growing Woodcock family.
And... despite the desire for a girl and eating watermelon, Tatiana graces Wadsworth with a son ... they gave him a good strong Lumberjack name too... Buck!
The house is finally starting to look like a home.

Wadsworth has entered his golden years. He's come along way from the lightweight, well groomed guy who first moved into the heavily wooded lot with the intent of proving himself a true outdoors man.
Buck is growing up quickly and seems to be following in his Dad's 'outdoorsey' footsteps.
Not that the life of a Lumberjack isn't without it's excitement.. like house fires! ... and is Tatiana in maternity clothes...again??
Yep surprise surprise.... like a true Lumber..Jane? ... Tatiana hardly paused in her gardening duties to pop out little Toby before she was back at her chores.
And so, in his golden years with his wife and sons, Wadsworth sits on the porch of his home, made with his own two hands and finishes up his final goal in life.. there isn't one thing he can't fix or build now. He can finally site back and truly enjoy the fruits of all his labors.
And the homestead is complete, no mansion but homey, cute and comfortable... unless of course Tatiana suddenly starts sporting that maternity outfit......again ;P
